PRESS RELEASE    Riders fan jury still out regarding the new coaching staff and team roster after first 4 weeks of play. July 27, 2016 Like the team itself, fans in Rider Nation are still adjusting to the Green and White’s new coaching staff and team roster according to a new poll conducted by Insightrix Research. Forty-six percent (46%) of fans are indifferent or believe it is too soon to make a call on the performance of the new coaching staff. Another 35% indicate that, at this point in the season, they feel somewhat or very positive about the new coaching staff. This contrasts with 19% who feel more negative. Similarly, 38% of fans are undecided or think it’s too early to judge the new roster out on the field. However, 36% of fans agree (somewhat or strongly) that the Riders have made positive roster changes this year while one-quarter (25%) of fans disagree with the roster changes. As for long term prognostications; fans predict standings in the West Division at the end of the season to unfold as outlined below: Stampeders- 1st place Eskimos- 2nd Lions- 3rd Riders-4th Bombers-5th Finally, Rider Nation is rather dismal about the Green and White’s Grey Cup chances early in the season. The Insightrix “Grey Cup Confidence Index” is currently sitting at -65, which means fans are quite negative about the Riders’ chances of winning the Cup this season. This index is calculated by subtracting proportions of negative ratings from proportions of positive ratings. An index score of 0 would be completely neutral. Research Details A total of 401 randomly selected SaskWatch Research® panel members participated in the online research and were screened for interest in the Riders to ensure they are part of the fan base. As the research is conducted online, it is considered to be a non-probability proportion sample and therefore, margins of error are not applicable. PRESS RELEASE: April 5th, 2016 Insightrix Accurately Predicts Saskatchewan Provincial Election Outcome Insightrix Research was the first polling company to accurately predict the popular vote outcome as far back as early March. Insightrix is proud to report that its independent polls conducted throughout March provided consistent and highly accurate assessments of actual popular voting results of the April 4th Saskatchewan Provincial Election.  Specifically, our most recent poll was within three percentage points of the actual popular vote outcomes for the SaskParty, exactly on for the NDP and one point off for the Liberals. We are pleased to report that similar accuracies in our polling were realized within the battlegrounds of Saskatoon and Regina. PRESS RELEASE: March 31, 2016 Voter Intentions Hold Steady in the Final Week of the Campaign A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds voter intentions remain unchanged in the final week of the election campaign. Among those intending to vote in Monday’s election, nearly one half say they plan to vote for the SaskParty (48%). Two in ten (22%) say they intend to vote for the NDP, 3% for the Liberals, and the Progressive Conservatives and the Green Party each garner 2% of the vote. At this point, one in ten voters (10%) say they are uncertain as to whom they intend to vote for, and another 12% prefer not to say. Among decided voters[1], 60% state they plan to cast their ballot for the SaskParty, while 30% intend to vote for the provincial NDP and 5% for the Liberals. Equal proportions (3%) plan to vote Green Party or Progressive Conservative. These findings are virtually unchanged from an Insightrix poll conducted two weeks ago. [1] Those who name a party they intend to vote for and those who are uncertain but name a party they are leaning towards. No differences are noted by age or gender for the two leading parties. While greater support for the SaskParty remains in the rural areas, voter intentions in Regina appear to have shifted slightly. While the two major parties were in a statistical tie in the Queen City as recently as two weeks ago, our latest poll suggests that the SaskParty has pulled ahead since Easter. One half (50%) of decided Regina voters plan on casting their ballot for the SaskParty, up from 44% in mid-March, with the NDP now trailing at 38%. The SaskParty maintains its lead in Saskatoon. Research Details A total of 1,500 randomly selected SaskWatch Research® panel members participated in the online research study from March 28th to 30th, 2016. Quotas were set by age, gender, and region to match the general population of the province. Since the research is conducted online, it is considered to be a non-probability proportion sample and therefore, margins of error are not applicable. Press Release: March 16th, 2016 A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds more voters plan to cast their ballot in favour of the SaskParty on April 4th when compared to the past several months. Presently, 61% of decided Saskatchewan voters(#) state they would cast their ballot for the SaskParty, while 29% would vote for the provincial NDP and 6% for the Liberals, if a provincial election were held today. Equal proportions (2%) would vote for either the Green Party or the Progressive Conservatives. Support for the SaskParty has steadily risen from an all-time low in November of last year, with continued momentum since the official start of the election. In contrast, support for the NDP has remained relatively steady over the past several polls. Demographically, those aged 18 to 34 are less likely to say they plan to vote for the SaskParty and more likely to support the Liberals. However, one half of the younger generation still intend to vote for the incumbent party. No differences are noted by gender. Regionally, we continue to see greater support for the SaskParty in the rural areas and greatest support for the NDP in Regina. In fact the two major parties are in a statistical tie in the Queen City. However, the SaskParty currently has a strong lead in Saskatoon and is up from 47% in our November 2015 poll. Our poll also asked Saskatchewan residents how much of an impact various factors have on their decision of which party to vote for. The findings illustrate items that have the greatest impact relate to a party’s stance on specific issues and the party’s past performance. Of note however, the leader of a party has a greater impact than the MLA running in one’s local riding. Perhaps the above findings provide some explanation of the voter intention, given that more Saskatchewan residents find Brad Wall to be more personable than Cam Broten. Part of the issue appears to be the fact that one third of Saskatchewan residents feel they do not know enough about Mr. Broten to comment on his personable nature. Research Details A total of 801 randomly selected SaskWatch Research® panel members participated in the online research study from March 14th to 16th, 2016. Quotas were set by age, gender, and region to match the general population of the province. PRESS RELEASE: Feb 26, 2016 Economy Tops the Minds of Saskatchewan Residents for this Upcoming Provincial Election A new independent Insightrix Research Inc. online poll finds that more than one half of Saskatchewan residents believe the economy is the biggest issue that should be discussed during the upcoming provincial election campaign. Presently, 54% of Saskatchewan residents believe the economy should top the agenda during the upcoming election campaign. Specific topics within the category of the economy include: the economy in general (25%), employment and job creation (16%), the oil & gas downturn specifically (9%), provincial debt or budget deficits (7%) and taxes (4%). Social issues are next on the list at 34%, including issues related to health care (18%), education (7%), poverty and affordable housing (7%), and refugees and immigration issues (5%). A total of 14% believe the SaskParty’s performance or stance on specific issues should be the focal point of the election, including items such as corruption and wasteful spending (6%), privatization (4%), the LEAN program (2%), GTH issues (1%), P3s (1%), or other Party issues or policies (4%). Infrastructure is noted by 6% of Saskatchewan residents while the environment is noted among 3%. Demographically, men are more concerned about the economy while women are more likely to believe social issues should top election campaign discussions. Belief that the economy should be the top discussion also rises with age. * Note that the above question was asked as an open-ended question and allowed respondents to provide text responses rather than pick from a list presented to them. Text responses have been coded into the above categories. Because some respondents listed more than one issue, percentages within the graph add up to more than 100%. Further, specific categories have been grouped into common themes which are denoted in the darker colour of the graph with the word (NET) next to the theme title. The percentages of individual codes may add up to more than the NET as multiple responses may have been given within the theme. The survey also asked respondents who they feel would be a better Premier of Saskatchewan: Brad Wall or Cam Broten, with the incumbent presently holding a commanding lead. Those more likely to say Brad Wall include men and those living outside of Regina and Saskatoon. Research Details A total of 800 randomly selected SaskWatch Research™ panel members participated in the online research study from February 9th to 11th, 2016. PRESS RELEASE: February 11, 2016 Does buying your partner something for Valentine’s Day increase your chances of getting lucky? A new independent Insightrix Research online poll conducted with a random selection of Saskatchewan residents suggests that there is a curious correlation between those who plan to buy a gift for their partner and those who are planning for a roll in the hay on February 14th. Specifically, 31% of Saskatchewan residents admit they plan to have sex specifically because it’s Valentine’s Day. Among those planning to buy a gift for their partner, nearly one half (46%) are hoping to make nookie compared to only 12% among those who do not plan on buying a gift. Those less likely to buy a gift (and therefore less likely to have a romantic interlude) tend to be older and have been in a relationship for longer periods of time, perhaps suggesting the flame may have diminished over time. Although 43% of Saskatchewan residents do not plan on buying their partner anything this coming February 14th, there still are four more days to change their minds! Carnal connections aside, there still may be some surprises for both women and men in Saskatchewan. The poll finds that nearly two thirds of men (64%) plan to give their partner a gift this Valentine’s Day while less than one half of women (44%) expect to receive one. Having said this, both genders have set their expectations low for receiving a gift, as compared to their intentions of purchasing one for their partner. Popular gifts people are planning on giving or expecting to receive include a romantic meal, chocolates, a greeting card and/or flowers. Intentions of treating someone to a romantic meal are nearly twice as high as the expectation of receiving one, suggesting that an unexpected candlelit meal may be in store in the near future. However, there is also the potential for disappointments this coming long weekend. Roughly one half of women expect to receive flowers, while only four in ten men plan to dote on their sweetheart with such blossoms. Take note men! In general, many men may have surprises coming their way considering their expectations fall below women’s purchase intentions for a romantic meal, chocolates or a greeting card. As noted earlier, three in ten (31%) Saskatchewan residents say they expect to get lucky this Valentine’s Day while 39% say that it is not in the cards. The rest (29%) are too bashful to say one way or the other. Are Saskatchewan residents more romantic than our neighbours to the east? Based on results from a similar poll conducted in Manitoba, the answer is yes! Only 15% of Saskatchewan residents express dislike for Valentine’s Day, calling it just “a Hallmark holiday”, whereas twice as many Manitobans feel the same way (29%). Further, slightly more Saskatchewan residents plan to buy gifts for their significant other this upcoming Sunday than in Manitoba (57% vs. 50%, respectively). Similarly, expectations of receiving a gift are higher in our province (44% vs. 36%, respectively). This again suggests there is a correlation between gift giving and “doing it” because more Saskatchewan residents are also likely to say they’ll be having sex this weekend than our Blue Bomber neighbours (31% and 27%). Research Details A total of 803 randomly selected SaskWatch Research™ online research panel members participated in the online research study between February 4th and 8th, 2016. According to a new independent Holiday Shopping Forecast poll conducted by Insightrix Research Inc., Santa Claus will be visiting Saskatchewan this Christmas as 93% of residents plan on buying gifts this holiday season. Kids of Saskatchewan will be happy to hear that households with one or more children (98%) are more likely to say that they intend to buy gifts compared to households without children (90%). Women are ahead of the curve in terms of their holiday shopping as 25% indicate that they have already purchased all their gifts, relative to 18% of men. However, there is still plenty of time to shop as 42% of residents who plan to buy, say they will likely complete their shopping in the first half of December. Interesting to note is that most do not plan on taking advantage of Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals as only 8% plan to buy gifts on these days. For the holiday shopping forecast, gifts do not come cheap as just under one half (46%) plan to spend more than $500 on gifts this year, which is similar to planned spending in 2014. You still have time to get off that naughty list, because Santa Claus is indeed coming to town! November 17th, 2015: A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds voter intentions have shifted slightly. The SaskParty maintains its lead, so far. Presently 54% of decided Saskatchewan voters state they would cast their ballot for the SaskParty, while 25% would vote for the provincial NDP and 14% for the Liberals, if a provincial election were held today. Another 6% would vote for either the Green Party or another party. This marks a strong increase for the provincial Liberals, likely due in part to the federal election outcome. This increase results in a downward shift for both the SaskParty and the NDP. Demographically, younger residents (aged 18 to 34) are more likely to say they would vote Liberal (22%) than are their older counterparts (13% among 35-54 year olds and 9% among those aged 55 years or older). Similarly, females are more likely to say they will vote for the Liberals than are males (17% vs. 12%), while males are more likely to say they will vote for the SaskParty (61% vs. 48% among females). Regionally, support for the NDP is strongest in Regina (34%) and Saskatoon (30%), vs. 20% in the rest of the province, while in contrast, support for the SaskParty is strongest outside of the two major cities (46% in Regina, 47% in Saskatoon and 60% in the rest of the province). Research Details A total of 803 randomly selected SaskWatch Research™ panel members participated in the online research study from November 10th to 12th, 2015. Less than one in five (19%) say developing the area is not important, with 14% saying it is not very important, and 5% saying it is not at all important. Residents who think development is important were asked what kind of development they would like to see in the area directly north of the river. They were able to indicate more than one response. Of those who think development is important, 56% indicate the land should be used for recreational development, 55% say it should be turned into industrial land, and 47% indicate the land should be developed for residential usage. Ten percent (10%) of respondents indicated other purposes and 7% were not sure what the land should be used for. A Second Bridge Insightrix asked residents how they would rate the importance of Prince Albert having a second bridge. Overall, 97% of residents say it is important, with 86% of respondents indicating it is extremely important, and 11% saying it is somewhat important. Just over one-fifth of residents (21%) disagree, with 15% indicating they somewhat disagree, and 6% indicating they strongly disagree. Out of those who say Prince Albert is in need of a new hospital, the top two reasons cited for needing a new hospital are additional bed space needed (30%), and to cut down on long wait times (25%). Clean-up on Aisle Nine! Finally, Insightrix asked respondents where they buy their groceries most often. Almost half (44%) indicate they most often shop at Superstore, while 21% say they shop at Safeway. Less than one in ten (8%) residents shop at Walmart for their groceries and 14% get their groceries from Co-op. Another 3% of those surveyed say they shop at Independent, and 10% selected ‘Other’. Conservatives Continue to Lead in Saskatchewan among Decided Voters in Upcoming Federal Election October 14th, 2015 A new independent Insightrix Research online poll finds some shifts in Saskatchewan “decided voter” intentions between August, 2015 and mid-October. Presently, 44% of decided Saskatchewan voters state they intend to cast their ballot for the Conservative Party of Canada, up from 39% in a similar Insightrix poll conducted in August, while plans of voting for Canada’s NDP has fallen from 35% to 27% over the same time period. The Liberals have picked up support by three points since August, presently sitting at 24% while the Green Party of Canada holds relatively steady at 4%. The remaining 1% indicate they will vote for a different party. Regionally, the Liberals have taken a commanding lead in Regina over the past two months, emerging as the frontrunner, when in August, they and the Conservatives were tied. In contrast, the Conservatives now lead in Saskatoon by a modest margin (36%, up from 32%), but are closely followed by the NDP which have sustained some losses in voter intentions since August (32%, down from 39%). Despite trailing the other two major parties, the Liberals have also made a small gain in Saskatoon since August (up four points to 27%). Intentions of voting for the Conservatives have surged in the remaining regions of the province (presently 54% of decided voters, up from 43%), with the greatest gains noted in the southern and central parts of Saskatchewan, with a corresponding loss for the NDP. By age, Conservative voting intentions have risen most among middle aged Saskatchewan voters (ages 35-54 years, presently 50%, up from 40% in August). Similarly, the Conservatives have gained ground among females these past two months with a current 41% intending to vote for the party, up from 34% in August. For the NDP, greatest losses in voter support are among younger voters aged 18 to 34 (presently 28%, down from 40%) who have largely turned to support the Liberals. Fully 93% of Saskatchewan residents say they intend to vote in the upcoming Federal Election on October 19th, 2015. Only 6% of those who intend to vote are currently unsure of the party for which they will vote. In the August poll, 10% were undecided. Research Details A total of 803 randomly selected SaskWatch Research™ panel members participated in the online research study from October 6th to 8th, 2015. The August poll included a random sample of 801 SaskWatch Research™ panel members who were surveyed from August 11th to 13th, 2015. In both studies, quotas were set by age, gender, and region to match the general population of the province.
